To Lead People, Walk Behind Them
Jul 21, 2021“To lead people, walk behind them.”
A simple instruction that was left by the Chinese sage, Lao Tzu thousands of years ago.
He didn’t say, “To lead people is to carry them."
Or drag them behind you.
Or motivate them to take action.
Or lose sleep over their results.
No.
It’s much simpler, although not always easy.
WALK BEHIND THEM.
How I read the deeper layers of his words:
💫 Trust people find their own way
💫 Let go of control and rigidity
💫 Listen more, speak less
💫Tenderness is key
💫 Learn to lead from behind
💫 Love is unconditional witnessing of another’s process
To lead people, walk behind them.
Let that caregiver archetype rest more.
Allow people to find their way.
Gently walk behind them.
In that lays a deep peace of walking the path of leadership.
